Sacramento Fox television affiliate Channel 40 (KTXL) will initiate an expanded evening weekday newscast that begins at 5 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Currently, Fox40 weekday news programming begins at 5:30 p.m. Under the new format, the evening news block will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

News Director Ed Chapuis said the 10 p.m. news anchor team of Stefanie Cruz and Eric Harryman will anchor the expanded 5 p.m. segment.

“Our viewers have told us they want to see Fox40 at 5 p.m.,” Chapuis said. “We’re already a strong news choice in the mornings and at 10 p.m., so this is a natural extension of our local news offerings. It’s really about what our viewers want.”

The station said it is adding resources and expanding staff to accommodate the additional news coverage.

KTXL is owned and operated by Tribune Broadcasting Co.
