Re "D.C. divide means that both parties need to negotiate" (Viewpoints, Oct. 10): I'm not sure what planet House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lives on, but it isn't ours. His plea for negotiation is replete with outright lies about the president's behavior.
For years, Barack Obama has tried countless times to work with House Republicans; many remain obstinate bullies who want nothing short of defunding the Affordable Care Act, a concession that I pray Obama continues to absolutely reject.
Cantor brings up the way Obama's executive orders have occasionally walked the line of constitutionality, but he doesn't mention that Obama was forced into those actions because House Republicans like Cantor have thwarted Obama at every turn simply because they despise him and are angry that their party can't have its way. Cantor and the tea party need to stop holding the country hostage to their resentment or, preferably, move out of the way so that we may move forward without them.
