Re "D.C. divide means that both parties need to negotiate" (Viewpoints, Oct. 10): I found it laughable that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor would have the audacity to claim that President Barack Obama needs to negotiate with Republicans on defunding the Affordable Care Act. While The Bee correctly identified Cantor as a Republican from Virginia, it would have been more accurate to describe him as a tea party extremist directly responsible for the shutdown of the federal government.
When the Affordable Care Act was agreed to years ago, House Speaker John Boehner acknowledged that he got 98 percent of what he wanted in those negotiations. Now he, Cantor and the rest of the tea party would like us to believe that it's Obama who is being inflexible. It's time to kick to tea party back to the fringe, where they belong.
