Re "D.C. divide means that both parties need to negotiate" (Viewpoints, Oct. 10): Eric Cantor is absolute right. President Barack Obama should negotiate with congressional Republicans.
How about starting with a list of demands that include comprehensive immigration reform, repeal of the Second Amendment and the replacement of "Obamacare" with a single payer system. Oh, maybe he should throw in a constitutional amendment creating nonpartisan redistricting commissions in all 50 states.
Maybe then Republicans can begin to see that their demands for negotiation are meaningless as long as their demands constitute a radical retrenchment of government, a retrenchment that few people support once they understand the stakes.
