Re "House GOP's backers flinch" (Page A1, Oct. 10): Now that big business leaders of the Republican Party are questioning the tactics of the tea party, we are once more learning what we always knew: Barack Obama is not a socialist. Business can work with him if it must. Capitalists just hoped that buying the tea party fanatics would enable them to take over the entire country.
This mistake has been made before. In the 1790s, French royalists thought they could control the Jacobins. In the 1920s, German industrialists thought they could use the Nazis. We can only hope that the revelations of the past few days will allow Americans to avoid the catastrophe which is the inevitable outcome of plutocrats' supporting true believers to further their greedy agendas.
