Weekend poll: How will the A's do next season?

Leading Off: Another great season for the A's

For the second season in a row, the A's gave their fans plenty of reasons to cheer in 2013.

They were tied for the second-most wins in baseball (96) and earned home-field advantage for the American League Division Series. Though they were beaten again by the Tigers, they gave their fans five great playoff games, including three at packed and rocking O.co Coliseum.

Sure, it's a disappointing end to a great season, but things could be worse for A's fans – they could live in Houston or Miami.

So enjoy the success, knowing your team was one of the best eight (and better than the Giants, too) and look forward to the playoffs again in 2014.

• Speaking of the A's, why didn't manager Bob Melvin have some of his players lay down bunts and test Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera, especially with the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth inning of Game 4?

Cabrera was hampered by a groin injury and other assorted ailments, and he might have had trouble getting to a well-placed bunt.

Was that decision more about Melvin and the A's style of hitting or that the bunt seems to be a lost art these days?

Let's see what the Red Sox do in a similar situation against the Tigers.
