Essential federal employees work during the government shutdown and receive their normal pay for working harder. Furloughed non-essential employees will go back to work and get their back pay for not working. Then we have those federal contract workers who are temporarily laid off who will receive no pay during the shutdown or afterwards.
So, the nonessential employees get a gift of public funds, but not the people laid off because of the stop work Orders. Is this fair? Further, why don't these people just file for unemployment insurance like the rest of us?
