Re "Debt crisis likely to postpone billions in aid" (Page A1, Oct. 14): The cost of the Iraq war did not show on the books of the Republican administration during the Bush years. Now we have to pay for it. The buildup of the Department of Homeland Security is a runaway Republican creation.
The Affordable Care Act supposedly united Republicans opposition for Barack Obama's 2012 candidacy, but he won on that issue.
Republican administrations have repeatedly needed to raise the debt ceiling far in excess of what this Democratic administration has needed. Most famous for this was Ronald Reagan who raised the debt ceiling 18 times.
Republicans want to poison this administration any way they can -- even if they have to take this country down with him. Their concern for the general welfare of the average citizen is disingenuous, their ideology is selfish and it represents a lesser America. I will not forget.
