Re "Debt crisis likely to postpone billions in aid" (Page A1, Oct. 14): Remember the sign on President Harry Truman's desk -- "The buck stops here."
So far we have strayed from this principle. I suggest a new sign: "A shutdown does not equal good governance." How about another: "A showdown does not equal leadership." Sayings such as these should be added to the American political lexicon. We should plaster them everywhere -- on signs, bumper stickers, license plates, and even the halls of Congress.
It doesn't matter if you are red or blue. We are getting neither leadership nor good governance from our current crop of political leaders. What should we do? We can write a letter, send an email end even post a tweet to our elected representatives. The more pressure they get from us, the sooner they will act.
