Re "Leaders in Senate closing in on accord" (Page A1, Oct. 15): Scenario one: A home invader has a family hostage, and demands $5 billion and safe passage out of the country. When the negotiator refuses, the kidnapper says, "Then I am going to kill everybody, and it will be your fault."
Scenario two: A political party says, "We want everything our way, even if we legally have no right to demand it. And if you do not do as we say, we will do terrible damage to the economy, and it will be your fault."
The latest economic crisis is owned 100 percent by the Republicans, a cross between a spoiled child and a dangerous criminal. At the same time they're putting a gun to the head of the nation, they are shooting themselves in the foot. It might be a mixed metaphor, but it is 100 percent accurate.
