Rancho Cordova-based GenCorp Inc., which saw its second-quarter earnings impacted by its acquisition of Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, saw a reversal of fortune in its third quarter ended Aug. 31.
GenCorp lost $11.8 million, 20 cents per share, in its second quarter ended May 31. At that time, it said the bottom line was depressed by expenses related to the $550 million purchase of Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne from United Technologies Corp., an acquisition wrapped up in mid-June.
But with Aerojet Rocketdyne Inc. integrated into the company and a good flow of business, GenCorp said its net income in the third quarter totaled $197.4 million, or $2.39 per diluted share, compared with a loss of $9.5 million, or 16 cents a share, in the third quarter of 2012.
Net sales for the third quarter totaled $367.5 million, up from $244.9 million in the year-ago period.
