Re "Leaders in Senate closing in on accord" (Page A1, Oct. 15): What shall we do now that the House Republicans have abolished the U.S. through the shutdown and default? The Democrats, if they indeed want to gloat about their superiority, need to do something decisive that involves the word leadership.
Here are some suggestions:
1. Stop the war machine, and reduce the standing army to a strike force of 5,000.
2. Fire every incompetent in the FBI, CIA and NSA. Stop contracting to firms that give security clearances to high school drop outs and psychopaths. Stop spying on the American people.
3. Unilateraly withdraw from Afghanistan today. Stop meddling in the internal affairs of the Middle East.
4. Stop all farm subsidies. Let the farmers get what they say they want, a free market economy.
Start with these steps and soon there will be more than enough money to fund health care for all.
