Published: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 - 12:00 am | Page 3C

The Bee posse's weekly update of the latest in area conditions, bargains, etc.

Course – What you need to know

Ancil Hoffman – Fairways still a bit under the weather; greens good except for No. 14 and scheduled to be punched Oct. 28-29

Auburn Valley – Great rates, great conditions (other than bunkers), good pace of play – what else do you need?

Bartley Cavanaugh – Fairways great, greens firm and fast; weekday players should inquire about Tuesday after 10 a.m. special

Dry Creek – Greens, aerified Sept. 25-26, recovering nicely and a week away from their best; good coverage in fairways

Empire Ranch – Great shape throughout; greens some of the best in Sacramento area

Haggin Oaks – Condition of MacKenzie fairways drawing raves; greens above average; bathroom upgrades appreciated

Hiddenbrooke – Greens wild fast on Vallejo course, which makes difficult layout that much more difficult

Lincoln Hills – Bunkers on the Orchard course not among the best in the area (best patches are the footprints)

Poppy Ridge – Greens on Livermore course are … wow! Smooth, fast and a contender for best played this year

WildHawk – Greens not bad for being punched two weeks ago – they're faster than they look; bunkers still a sore spot

Wildhorse – During a 5-hour, 15-minute round Friday, greens found to be good but severely ball-marked, fairways just OK

Winchester – A good experience overall with greens a little better than average

Aerified last week: Davis, Mather, The Ridge;

Aerified this week: Diamond Oaks

Scheduled to aerify next week: Lincoln Hills (both courses), Whitney Oaks
