Sacramento-based Greenleaf Power LLC, an owner and operator of green energy power plants, says it has finalized the purchase of the Saint-Félicien Cogeneration Power Plant in Saint-Félicien, Quebec, Canada, about 300 miles north of Montreal.
Financial terms of the acquisition, Greenleafs first outside the United States, were not disclosed.
Greenleaf bills itself as one of the nation's leading biomass energy firms and operates biomass plants in San Joaquin, Humboldt, Lassen and Riverside counties.
The Saint-Félicien facility has a capacity of about 21 megawatts of electricity and pushes Greenleafs energy capacity among all its facilities to more than 145 megawatts.
Greenleaf said the Canadian plant is capable of providing energy for up to 23,000 homes. The biomass facility sells its electrical output to Hydro-Quebec under a long-term agreement.
