Re "Ordeal ends as GOP gives in" (Page A1, Oct. 17): The Senate finally provided the adult leadership necessary to resolve our budgeting dilemmas. I am less sanguine, however, about resolving the long-term passions that created this impasse.
Tea party members in particular emphasize they stand on unwavering principles (not always clearly articulated). Such fervent commitment by Sen. Ted Cruz and his followers appears fundamental to their makeup. Yet, blind devotion to principle makes for interesting bedfellows. Another well-known leader echoed the same value, Osama bin Laden.
What do Cruz and his minions really represent?
