Re "Ordeal ends as GOP gives in" (Page A1, Oct. 17): Once again a politically created national budget crisis has been averted for another few months with a new set of deadlines for the next politically created budget crisis. Because this "crisis" creates a great deal of political animosity, it also creates an enormous fundraising opportunity for both political parties and other groups.
In January, you can expect the same shutdown of the government with the same end result -- the can will be kicked further down the road to a date prior to when Congress goes on recess so they can all hit the campaign trail. You can expect Congress and the president to come to an agreement on a budget to be used as political propaganda.
