Re "GOP House doing good" (Letters, Oct. 17): The letter writer took exception to a Bee editorial, which the writer believes wrongly sought to link a protester carrying a Confederate flag to the government shutdown.
Flags are a symbolic representation of an idea or set of beliefs. Yes, there was only one person carrying the Confederate flag. But Stalin had a flag, Mao had a flag, Hitler had a flag. Flags mean something. The person carrying it believes in what the flag represents. So yes, it was correct for the editorial to mention it.
