Re "Dr. Ben Carson sinks to a new low, comparing Obamacare to slavery" (Viewpoints, Oct. 16): Leonard Pitts Jr. states that Dr. Ben Carson is "only obeying commandments that are evidently chiseled on a stone tablet for all the extreme right to follow... Thou shalt not understate, Thou shalt not be thoughtful, Thou shalt not make a lick of sense." Could it be Mr. Pitts is referring to examples where partisan extremists have referred to their opponents as jihadists, arsonists, terrorists strapped to a bomb, anarchists, etc. Certainly these are all ugly, inflammatory epithets, that "make not a lick of sense." The only problem is that they were not uttered by extreme rightists , but instead by leaders of the Democratic Party, most notably Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
But what's the use of exposing such hypocrisy to an uninterested progressive columnist? As the saying goes, "A blind man will not thank you for a looking glass." -- James McCandless, Roseville
