Re "Economic ripple effect of D.C. gridlock is widening" (Business, Oct. 17): The shutdown cost our economy billions and losses will grow as uncertainty about the next deadline early next year approaches. That is the effect of the manufactured crises caused by tea party congressmen like Tom McClintock. He voted for the shutdown and against ending the shutdown.
Obamacare will succeed or fail under its own weight and the voters will decide its fate. Until then, tea party types need to stop doing more damage to our economy and country.
Safe seats in the House may make them secure in their jobs appealing to a vocal minority, but they will never win national election through sabotage, shutdowns and calls for revolution. Until moderate conservatives take their party back and ignore the fringe elements within it they will continue to devolve into oblivion.
