Re "Raymond recalls low times" (Our Region, Oct. 18): Good riddance! Superintendent Jonathan Raymond was sent here by Eli Broad to privatize as many of our public schools as possible. He succeeded in closing seven elementary schools, and initially wanted to close 11. He insisted on closing these schools even though his evidence for closure was dubious at best.
The schools he targeted were all in neighborhoods with the lowest income and highest minority populations. He chose these schools against the district's own recommendations. The children and families who he so callously uprooted and the neighborhoods he destroyed will be reeling from Raymond's folly for years.
