Five tennis players from UC Davis won their first matches at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals on Friday, but all five were beaten in the round of 64 in Moraga.
Alec Adamson of UC Davis won the first set against top-seeded John Morrissey of Stanford before falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Brett Bacharach, James Wade, Adam Levie and Adam Luba lost in straight sets.
UCD volleyball sweeps
Kaylin Squyres had 16 kills and 13 digs to lead the UC Davis women's volleyball team to a 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20 victory at Cal Poly. Setter Jenny Woolway had 20 digs for the Aggies (11-8, 3-3 Big West Conference), UCD reported on its athletics website.
Host Sacramento State was swept by Montana 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 in a Big Sky Conference match, according to the school's athletics website. Sloan Lovett returned from a shoulder injury and led the Hornets (9-11, 4-5 Big Sky) with 11 kills. For Montana (8-10, 5-4), Kayla Reno had 17 kills and no errors.
Eight goals by senior attacker Balazs Erdelyi was too much to overcome for 11th-ranked host UC Davis in a 22-10 men's water polo loss to No. 3 Pacific, UCD's athletics website reported. Juniors Trevor Allen and Chris Richardson scored two goals each for the Aggies (7-9). Junior Alex Obert (Del Oro High School) scored four goals for Pacific (14-2).
UC Davis allowed the final three goals in a 4-2 women's field hockey loss to Pacific in Berkeley, according to UCD's athletics website. Agustina Singh's second goal in two games and Kristin Rodgers' first college goal gave the Aggies (4-9, 2-2 NorPac Conference) a 2-1 advantage over the Tigers (4-10, 2-2).
