Re "Fire, politics slam tourist towns" (Page A1, Oct. 20): I find it outrageous that Rep. Tom McClintock voted to allow a government to default on its debt and that he was a party to a shut down of government.
Divided government doesn't give the right to create anarchy. Do we need fiscal responsibility in government? Yes. We need middle ground, not a bitter end ground that doesn't serve the people. The Republicans who voted to open the government have more backbone than McClintock. It is inexcusable to the people he represents and who he put out of work, and the financial calamity he created. A better man should elected.
