Enjoy the warmer than normal weather through Sunday this week, as temperatures will drop to more seasonal levels starting Monday.

“We’re finally going to cool down,’ said Michelle Mead, forecast meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

“If you have stuff that you need the warmer temperatures, do it by this Sunday. But it will feel cooler Monday.”

Wednesday’s high is expected to be 82 degrees, well above the normal 75 degrees for this date. But tonight’s low will be also lower than normal - 47 degrees instead of the typical 49 degrees.

Highs will remain around 80 degrees Thursday through Sunday, with lows right around 48 degrees.

But that will change starting Monday, when the daytime high is expected to be around 74 degrees, and overnight lows dropping to 45 degrees.

“We’ve had a big ridge of high pressure off the west coast that is keeping us nice and warm, but early next week, a trough of low pressure is going to dig in over the Great Basin - the Four Corners area - and bring cooler air into the region,” said Mead.

The low pressure trough will also bring winds, possibly up to 15-20 mph, starting Monday night through Tuesday for the west side of the Sacramento valley.

“It’s nothing too drastic, but when you’re not used to strong winds, it will have more of an impact,” she said.

The change in the weather pattern will also bring cloud cover, which may start as soon as Friday, when a weak disturbance moves in. The clouds will increase next week, with a slight chance that showers may occur.

“We’re still in our dry month,” said Mead, noting that the average rainfall for October is one inch.

“We’re well below that, as we have not seen any measurable rain in Sacramento. We should average just over a half inch by now.”
