Re "Nuke officers left blast door open" (Page A5, Oct. 23): Rather than fix the problem of sloppy, sleepy officers, we should nix the whole program.
Who can blame these hapless officers, kept on high alert for something with a zero chance of happening. Does anyone really think we are going to nuke Russia, or China? Or any other supposed nuclear enemy?
In case any Rip Van Winkles are reading this, the Cold War is over, has been for decades. Let's set an example to the world, and save a lot of money, by decommissioning the whole nuclear weapons program.
Not, as the Obama administration wants to do, spend huge amount to money upgrading an obsolete, dangerous, and useless program. Let the officers sleep at home
