The Sacramento Kings on Thursday announced they have launched a Hindi-language version of the team website for what team officials say is a rapidly growing Hindi-speaking international fan base.
The site, at www.kings.com/hindi, provides similar features to the regular team site, including player profiles, interviews, and game information.
The effort is part of new Kings’ majority owner Vivek Ranadivé‘s goal of making the Kings and NBA basketball a major attraction in India and in other Asian countries. Ranadivé, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, grew up in Mumbai, India.
“A key facet of our ownership group’s vision is for the Kings to become India’s home team,” said Kings President Chris Granger. “Between our dance team performing in India this summer, a live telecast on Sony Six for our home opener, and the launch of the website, we are committed to reaching out to India, and all of Asia, in a comprehensive way. This is just the beginning.”
Kings officials say they plan several India-related activities during games this season, including on opening night next week. Officials said they expect a contingent of Indian media at the Wednesday Kings home opener.
