Assisted by Davis Energy Group, Team Austria won first place in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition, beating out 19 competitors.

The Davis company is an energy consultancy that employs sustainable technologies to help create energy-efficient new buildings and improve the efficiency of existing buildings.

Davis Energy Group provided Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certification assistance to the winning team.

In the decathlon, teams are charged with designing, building and operating solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

DEG steered Team Austria through the LEED process during the recent competition in Irvine. Officials said plans for the DEG/Team Austria house began more than two years ago.
