Re "Protesters rally after boy is shot by deputy" (Page A4, Oct. 30): We have laws for a reason. Unfortunately, some people don't follow or respect laws, and authorities.
When law enforcement officers tell people to do something, there is a reason. Failure to comply can lead to terrible consequences. While I feel badly the boy died, he was told to drop the gun which could not be distinguished from a real gun. He did not.
There have been many shootings of law enforcement officers. No one warns officers when they intend to shoot. Officers risk their lives everyday to protect us. For people to criticize and protest is ridiculous. More ridiculous was to quote a 15-year-old about how the officer should have handled the situation. If instructions had been followed, the outcome would have been different.
