Fresh off its biggest women's volleyball upset victory in school history, UC Davis will play host to UC Riverside tonight and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday in Big West Conference matches.
On Saturday, the Aggies (12-9, 4-4) defeated then No. 8 Hawaii in a five-set match in front of more than 1,300 fans at the Pavilion. It marked the first time the Aggies had beaten a top-10 women's volleyball team.
Mary Schroeder, a junior from La Canada who had 17 kills against Hawaii, was selected the Big West Player of the Week.
The win was coach Jamie Holmes' 98th with the Aggies.
Hornet hard hitting, too
Sacramento State freshman middle blocker Courtney Dietrich was named the Big Sky Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after helping the Hornets to wins over Portland State and Eastern Washington.
The 6-foot-1 Dietrich, from Chelan, Wash., helped the Hornets offensively, defensively, and with the serve with averages of 2.25 kills, 1.88 blocks, 3.69 points and 0.38 aces per set while hitting .382.
