Re "Protesters rally after boy shot by deputy" (Page A4, Oct. 30): The recent death of a 13-year-old boy in Santa Rosa is a tragedy of the highest level.
The child's survivors, the law enforcement officer, and the community will never truly be at peace with this dark time in their lives.
The depth of this tragedy notwithstanding, I find it interesting that neither the media nor the community are making a connection between this incident and the recent middle school shooting in Sparks.
If a law enforcement officer had been present at the middle school and taken the identical action taken in Santa Rosa, an outstanding teacher would still be alive and several young children would not have to recover from bullet wounds.
The reality is that the officer had no choice. Missteps by parents and the widespread availability of replica guns caused this tragedy.
