Brian Baer Special to The Bee Jason Elenberger, outrunning Pleasant Grove's Earl Chism on Oct. 26, set a record for Jesuit quarterbacks with 268 rushing yards in a 69-40 win at Sheldon on Friday. He scored five touchdowns.

High school football notes: A 6-4 team may not make playoffs for first time in current format

The high school football regular season, which started in the heat of August, caps a 10-week whirlwind Friday in the chill of November.

Among the 154 Sac-Joaquin Section schools that play football, 53 teams have at least six victories, the general cutoff for playoff hopefuls, provided teams win at least two league games. Placer is 5-4 but has secured a share of the Pioneer Valley League title and a Division IV playoff berth.

Breaking it down even more, 20 teams in the section have five victories. In Divisions I through IV, 64 teams will advance to the postseason, but a 6-4 team or two may not, which would be a first since the current format was implemented in 2009.

Playoff brackets will be set late Saturday afternoon. A glance at league championships to be settled Friday:

• No. 2 Del Oro at No. 5 Rocklin: A meeting of nearby rivals for the Sierra Foothill League title. The teams could meet again in the D-II playoffs.

• No. 17 Whitney at No. 16 Antelope: Whitney looks to avenge last season's Week 10 loss to Antelope for the Capital Athletic League title.

• No. 6 Elk Grove, No. 9 Grant and No. 14 Franklin: The schools will finish in a three-way tie for the Delta Valley Conference title if they beat unranked teams Friday.

• No. 4 Pleasant Grove must upend top-ranked Folsom to tie the Bulldogs for the Delta River League championship.

Big Red runner – Jason Elenberger set a single-game rushing record for Jesuit quarterbacks with 268 yards and five touchdowns in a 69-40 victory over Sheldon.

Elenberger, who entered the game with 252 rushing yards, was an All-DRL receiver in 2012. He broke Thomas Sperbeck's record of 248 yards set last season against Folsom.

Colfax 5K club – Colfax quarterback Michael Wilson joined the school's 5,000-yard career passing club with 5,332 yards in 19 varsity games. Other Colfax quarterbacks to surpass 5,000 yards are Nate Ray (5,407), Austin Young (5,158), Marcus Arroyo (5,141) and Ben Galbraith (5,127).

Wilson also has 35 touchdown passes this season and is within reach of Ray's school record of 41 in 12 games in 1999. Wilson has 54 career touchdown passes, second to Ray's school record of 59 over two seasons.

Record breaker – Justice Shelton-Mosley set Capital Christian's career all-purpose yardage record with 4,708 yards in a 49-3 rout of West Campus. A junior who compiled the yardage as running back, receiver and special-teams returner, Shelton-Mosley broke the mark of 4,691 yards held by Jonah Russell.

Golden Eagles Express – Del Oro's 70-21 victory over Nevada Union broke the school scoring record, surpassing the Golden Eagles' mark of 64 set against Lindhurst in 1975 and El Dorado in 2003. Nevada Union, trying to avoid its first 0-10 season, plays at No. 8 Granite Bay on Friday.
