Thank Al Jazeera for investigative reporting

Re "How did Al Jazeera get papers?" (Letters, Nov. 5): Instead of blaming Al Jazeera for leaking the Calderon affidavit, we should be thanking it.

The letter writer finds it difficult to trust Al Jazeera because of alleged ties to Hamas and ownership by the government of Qatar. As a long-time reader of Al Jazeera I find their reporting more balanced and fair than most of the corporate media within our nation. Al Jazeera is doing the good old-fashioned investigative reporting that is rapidly disappearing from mass-produced media.

Sadly, some of the most reliable, balanced reporting of major national and international events is coming from overseas media, including the excellent work of Al Jazeera. I am saddened that I can no longer trust the networks or the national press to provide balanced coverage.

We need to be cautious when people discredit overseas, and especially Islamic, news sources, especially when they are telling us the truth.
