Religion is sometimes relevant in terrorist incidents

Re "Gunman's religion absent" (Letters, Nov. 6): The letter writer claims that if the suspected LAX shooter had been a Muslim then much would have been made of this.

He misses the point. If the LAX shooter had been yelling "Jesus is great!" while he was shooting, then much would have been made about that. It seems that his religion had nothing to do with the attack.

But in the case of terrorist incidents involving Muslims, they have been very clear that what they did was for their religion. When you yell "Allah Akbar!" while you pull the trigger, then this fact is dutifully noted and the religion of the perpetrator becomes relevant.
