Re "'Strong mayor' to get vote" (Page A1, Nov. 6): The news that the Sacramento City Council will put a "strong mayor" measure on the November 2014 ballot should be good news for city voters.
For more 25 years as a volunteer protecting county seniors, and as former executive director and president of the County Taxpayers Association I faced five Sacramento City mayors and city councils and found them often disconnected. Sacramento is one of the few large cities left in California run by a city council.
The other cities, managed by mayors who hire city managers, and are responsible for city budgets and actions appear more efficient. If the strong mayor vote is successful I believe it would soon demonstrate its superiority over what we have now, and why so many other cities have strong mayors.
