Better to enact limits than to create 'Strong Mayor'

Re "'Strong Mayor' to get vote" (Page A1, Nov. 6): Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has been asking for increased power for several years now. The City Council has just agreed to put a "Strong Mayor" measure on the November 2014 ballot that if approved, would give the mayor the power he has been seeking. Sacramentans should keep in mind that most American politicians are incapable of managing themselves, or their country and Mr. Johnson is just another politician.

A very old Filipino neighbor of mine told me in the 1950s "too much no good, plenty alright" -- meaning that too much of anything is not good for you. Our politicians in Washington and Sacramento have proven the point over and over and over. Giving Mr. Johnson more power is like spraying gasoline on a fire -- it will only make things worse.

Limiting politicians' power and term limits are the only things that will save America from itself.
