Our story in today’s fiber/cyber Bee looks at the intersection of technology and human behavior through the Department of Fair Employment and Housing’s experience paperless case-management system HoudiniEsq.

Here are some of the documents that informed the report:

The HoudiniEsq fact sheet provided by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

The Houdini contract with LogicBit Software LLC.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s September 2012 assessment of the state’s performance processing residential discrimination claims.

HUD’s April 2013 “performance improvement plan” letter and Fair Employement and Housing Director Phyllis Cheng’s response (scanned copy highlighted and marked by The Bee)

HUD’s September 2013 assessment of the state’s performance processing residential discrimination claims.

HUD’s Nov. 5, 2013, follow-up letter, finding that the state has made improvements in how it handles discrimination complaints.

We can never get everything we learn into a news story. “From the notebook” posts give you some of the extra details behind the news.
