Do you know if former Raley’s employee David Magana was sentenced?

– Susan, Sacramento

David John Magana, a former Raley’s advertising director, pleaded guilty in February to his role in a complex scheme to defraud the supermarket chain of $2.5 million.

He initially was to have been sentenced in June, but according to U.S. District Court online records, his sentencing was postponed and is now scheduled for Dec. 17.

Magana, an Auburn resident, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and to a money laundering conspiracy.

Two other men, Jason Allen Smith of Foresthill and Martin Stewart Cullenward of Cool, also have pleaded guilty in the case. Online court documents indicate they are to be sentenced Dec. 3.

According to court documents, Magana and the others conspired to defraud Raley’s through a scheme that involved kickbacks, selling Raley’s paper inventory to third parties at a discount and supplying paper to Raley’s at an inflated price.
