Mountain Mandarin Festival

What: Placer County celebrates for the 20th year the intensely flavored mandarin orange with a festival that includes samples of the new crop and a recipe contest.

When: Nov. 22-24

Where: Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn

Cost: $3-$7, children under 12 free

Planning the holiday menu

What: Classes will provide instruction on holiday wines and the essentials of preparing turkey. Participants sample the prepared foods.
