The UC Davis and Sacramento State men’s basketball programs each signed one player to an NCAA letter of intent Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

Mira Costa High School (Manhattan Beach) forward Justin Strings signed with Sac State, while Elyria High of Ohio guard Isaiah Walton will join UC Davis. Both will enroll next fall.

“Justin has big shoulders, big hands, long arms, a big chest, and he will eventually develop a very powerful body,” Sac State coach Brian Katz said in a release. “He is one of those players that flew under the radar but is extremely skilled and has the potential to become a very good player at the collegiate level.”

The 6-3 Walton averaged 17.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists in helping his team reach the Division I district semifinals as a junior.

“He is a very skilled and athletic guard who makes us immediately better on the basketball floor,” UC Davis coach Jim Les said in a release. “He is an explosive scorer that can make plays for himself as well as others.”

Cal State Bakersfield 74, Sac State 66 in Bakersfield – Dylan Garrity scored a game-high 22 points and Cody Demps had 10 points and 12 rebounds, but the Hornets (1-1) fell to the Roadrunners (2-1).
