Re "One more abuse of direct democracy?" (Editorials, Nov. 13): To borrow a metaphor from the animal kingdom, whether you are a pointer or a setter has nothing to do with which breed you identify with. Your physical characteristics should be the determining factor in which bathroom or shower facility you use. I am dad to five daughters. I have a problem with them being in a locker room shower where male genitalia are on display, regardless of how that particular male feels about his gender identity. There are solutions. School bathroom facilities already exist to separate males and females. How difficult would it be to designate one or more restrooms for transgender students? Showers pose a greater difficulty because providing a third kind would be prohibitively expensive. But it would not be so difficult to alternate their use between gender identities on a timed basis.
