California sheriff’s foundation warns of phone scam

The Sacramento-based California State Sheriff’s Association Foundation’s is warning the public of a scam involving phone calls that appear to come from the foundation’s phone number.

The foundation has been advised that citizens have received suspicious phone calls that appear to come from its Sacramento office phone number, (916) 375-8000, according to a foundation news release. Officials advise people who receive suspicious phone calls not to give out any personal information, such as Social Security or bank account numbers, and to immediately report the calls to their local law enforcement agency.

Foundation officials said the organization does not solicit by phone.
