Re "What if this depression-like economy is the new normal?" (Viewpoints, Nov. 19): Despite the government's manipulations of the money supply in recent years, our economy remains depressed. Paul Krugman concludes this is the "new normal." Government control of the economy caused the Soviet Union to collapse, and is ruining European economies now. Calling our distressed economy the "new normal" is an admission of defeat. It is easy to recognize that economies managed by government simply do not work well, especially where the citizens insist on freedom. Paul Krugman would simply have us accept his vision but ignore the failure. Thanks, but no thanks.
