Answers to common questions about the new commenting system on Sacbee.com.
Do I have to use my real name to comment?
Yes. We are requiring real names to improve the quality of community contributions and to reinforce the notion of comments on stories as a town square discussion. During the beta test, your social network user name will be displayed next to your comment.
I have information to share with The Sacramento Bee, but I need to be anonymous. What should I do?

I see comments on stories, but I can't comment. Why not?
We are enabling commenting for a small, randomly selected group of Sacbee.com's paid subscribers first. After we test the new commenting system and ensure the quality of comments are improving, we will begin to release comments to all our paid subscribers. For the next phase of the rollout, we plan to give paid subscribers a number of invites to share with friends. Finally, we will open comments to the general public, starting with those people who have completed the request for access to comments.
What is the voucher? How do I get one?
We are using vouchers as part of our real-names verification to help us improve comment quality and prevent duplicate use of the same invitation. If you would like an invitation for early access to comments, complete this form.
Can I use my voucher on a second computer or mobile device?
That won't be necessary. Once you create your account with the invitation voucher on one computer, you can log in to comments on as many devices as you like using the same account details.
Who will be allowed to comment? Who won't be allowed?
When the release of comments is finalized, everyone will be able to comment. We will continue to monitor comments for quality and adherence to our rules. Offenders will lose their commenting privileges.
Can I use my Sacramento Bee account to comment?
Not at this time, but we are working on making this an option. Customers will be asked to migrate their old Sacbee account, not your Digital Plus account, to our new registration system.
My spouse/family member wants to leave comments, but I'm the Bee subscriber. Can they use my account? How does that work?
In the initial stages of the rollout, only one account will be available per paid subscriber. We plan to expand this in the near future, giving each paid subscriber multiple accounts for their household to use.
Do I have to use Facebook to comment?
No. We have many other social logins available. In final release, we plan to have an option that does not require a social login.
What social media accounts can I use to comment?
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google and Microsoft. If you want to use a different social network, let us know here.
Will my comment appear in my Facebook feed for my friends to see?
This is optional. There is a checkbox that allows you to share comments to Facebook and other social networks if you wish. This is not selected by default.
What if I don't want to use a social media account to comment?
We plan to offer a registration option without requiring a social media account in the future.
I don't want to read comments. Can I turn them off?
You can hide comments by using the "Hide Comments" button above the comments area at the bottom of stories.
What if I don't like a comment? Can it be removed?
Use the thumbs up or down to show your approval or disapproval. Comments will be removed only if they do not meet our guidelines.
Why do you remove some comments?
We remove comments that violate the guidelines.
I don't want to read comments from certain people. Can I remove certain commenters from my view?
We are looking into this feature and expect to offer it in the future. Hopefully our work to improve comments will make this less necessary.
Will commenters who leave inappropriate comments be blocked?
Yes. Our moderators will block those who flagrantly or repeatedly violate our guidelines.
Do I need to have cookies enabled to comment?
Will comments work with any Internet browser?
All major browsers are supported.
What if I'm having trouble leaving a comment? How do I get help?
