Senator should be judged by his environmental record

Re "Latino caucus gets new scrutiny" (Page A1, Nov. 10): Sen. Kevin de Leon is an environmental leader. I have personally witnessed his leadership on several key policy initiatives to help California transition to a clean energy economy. By co-chairing Proposition 39, the California Clean Energy Jobs Act, $2.5 billion will be appropriated to fund energy efficiency and clean energy projects across the state and will have significant impact in advancing energy-efficient, green schools that reduce costs and provide healthy learning environments. Five hundred million dollars has already been allocated to support energy efficiency improvements in K-12 schools across the state, dollars that will have real impact. The senator was advocating for green schools long before the term was popular. A fair assessment of his environmental record requires a look at all his actions, not just one or two.
