Re "Base tax on vehicle weight" (Letters, Nov. 22): Rustom Dubash has a good idea on taxing vehicles by weight, but he's forgetting the elephant in the room, so to speak. The damage to the road increases exponentially as the weight of the vehicle goes up. I was taught in an engineering class that a fully loaded semi-tractor trailer causes 10,000 times more damage to the road than a typical passenger car. I don't think the trucking industry would take paying that much more in vehicle taxes.
