Re "Build Cal Poly campus, not a downtown arena" (Viewpoints, Nov. 21): Boy, does Joe Mathews have it right. A Cal Poly branch here would be a real moneymaker for the city, unlike an arena. A report in 2006 for Salt Lake City when city officials were considering building an arena concluded that an arena had the net effect of opening a new supermarket. And that was only if there were no existing arena. All this arena fiasco will produce is a transfer of businesses and low-paying jobs from Natomas to downtown. Let's get on board with the campus idea, which would really upgrade upgrade downtown.
