Five Sacramento restaurants worth visiting on Thanksgiving

Whether you’ve botched the turkey and need a quick back-up plan, or you just don’t want to spend the next 36 hours brining, roasting and sauteing, a number of Sacramento area restaurants have you covered.

Here’s are five restaurants that’ll keep you stuffed on Thanksgiving, listed in no particular order.

* Grange Restaurant & Bar (926 J St., Sacramento; 916-492-4450): A number of local hotels keep their kitchens open for Thanksgiving dinner, including Dawson’s at the Hyatt, but Grange gets our pick for its locally focused menu. Course choices include smoked Passmore Ranch trout, Del Rio Farms autumn squash bisque, turkey, mushroom wellington for the vegetarians and more. This menu will be available from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. $50 per person. Here’s a link to the full menu.

* New Canton Restaurant (2523 Broadway, Sacramento; 916-739-8888): You won’t find the traditional turkey and trimmings here, but spinning the lazy susan while feasting on dim sum with the family can be the start of a fine holiday tradition. Scarf on pork buns, dumplings of all sorts, noodles and much more. They’ll be open from 9:30 a.m. to midnight.

* Ten22 (1022 Second St., Sacramento; 916-441-2211): If you were hoping to score a Thanksgiving reservation for The Firehouse, well, at this point all tables are booked and there’s a lengthy waiting list. However, you can dine at Ten22, The Firehouse’s sister restaurant in Old Sacramento, for a four-course Thanksgiving meal that includes maple brined free-range turkey breast and many other options. A kids’ menu is also available, and the menu will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tables are filling up fast, so click here to get a reservation pronto. $34.95 per person.

* La Provence (110 Diamond Creek Blvd., Roseville; 916-789-2002): Give this classic all-American holiday a spin through France, with potage de courge d’Héritage (heirloom squash soup), dinde en deux cuisson (roasted turkey breast and confit of leg) and other Thanksgiving items that sound extra fancy in a French accent. Get the goods from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant’s also offering a to-go menu. $37, $12 for ages 10 and under).

* The Porch Restaurant and Bar (1815 K St, Sacramento; 916-444-2423): Back to the good ol’ U.S. of A., The Porch will offer a southern themed dinner and if you have a hankering for buttermilk fried chicken over roasted turkey, you’ll be in the right spot. Other menu items include grilled honey ham, fried green tomatoes and more. There’s no prix fixe menu here, but look for a price range of $14-$23 for most main courses. Cocktails are served starting at 1 p.m. and dinner seating runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
