The Butte County Sheriffs Office is investigating a Thanksgiving Day shooting that led to discovery of an illegal marijuana garden.
About 1:20 p.m. Thursday, the Sheriffs Office received a report that a gunshot victim was being transported to a hospital by a relative. The caller told authorities that the victim had been shot in the face and that the shooting had occurred at an unknown address on Long Point Road in Feather Falls, according to a Sheriffs Office news release.
As deputies were responding to the area, they found the victim, who was parked on Lumpkin Road near Forbestown Road. Medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
When deputies arrived at the residence on Long Point Road, the suspect, who has not been identified, fled into a heavily wooded area. Deputies, assisted by the Butte County sheriffs helicopter, searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.
During the search for the suspect, deputies discovered a large illegal marijuana garden on the property, authorities said. The Butte County sheriffs Special Enforcement Unit arrived and took over that part of the case.
