Evan Whisenant, 10, concentrates while making cookies with her mom, Shannon Whisenant, in Antelope. The ailments of old age have taken a toll on Evan Whisenant. In the past few years, she's dealt with osteoporosis and cataracts. She's gone through a couple of bouts with melanoma. Much of this is to be expected with the senior years – but Evan is only 10, and all of these maladies have come about as side effects of the intense treatments she endured half her lifetime ago, when she beat leukemia.
