Who will Seminoles play in BCS title game?

This much we know. Florida State is ready to party like it's 1999 – the last season the Seminoles won the national championship in collegiate football.

What we don't know is who will be their dance partner on Jan. 6, 2014, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, site of the BCS national championship game.

This, of course, assuming Florida State, now ranked No. 1 in the latest BCS poll with one week remaining, defeats upstart Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship this Saturday. But the odds of the Seminoles losing a postseason football game to the Blue Devils in the postseason are as great as Duke losing to Florida State in a basketball game in March -- not likely.

The logical answer is BCS No. 2-rand ranked and undefeated Ohio State, which – it would seem – only needs a victory over one-loss Michigan State in Saturday’s Big Ten championship game. The Seminoles and the Buckeyes are the only remaining undefeated teams in the BCS, and never before has an undefeated team been leap-frogged by a one-loss team in the final BCS ranking.

But the past seven national champions have come from the Southeastern Conference, and with Auburn No. 3, two-time defending national champion Alabama now No.4 and Missouri No. 5 there are no guarantees.

The Buckeyes need a strong performance over the Spartans, especially after giving up more than 600 yards and narrowly defeating Michigan 42-41 on Saturday, to clinch a date in Pasadena.

Otherwise, No. 3 Auburn could surpass Ohio State for the No. 2 spot in next Sunday’s final BCS poll. But if the War Eagles were to lose to Missouri next Saturday and Ohio State either doesn't play well against Michigan State or actually loses, Alabama – ranked No. 4 – could make an unexpected trip to the Rose Bowl.

Can you say three-peat?
