Re "California highways need big fix" (Dan Walters, Nov. 25): Businesses import and export a whopping $500 billion in goods every year in California. And how do those goods get to and from our ports? On our taxpayer- funded highways, of course. A mere 1 percent tax on those imports and exports would raise $5 billion, or nearly twice the amount being proposed by a new car tax. Let's have those who are benefitting the most financially from our highways help pay for the road improvements.
